Revolutionary War era Artillery Gimlet Possibly American. This is v ery rare piece. This would have been used to clear the touch hole of the cannon and to pierce the bag of gunpowder inside before a fuse was inserted. The top of gimlets are often a loop or straight, but in this case the top has 2 rough cutting edges made out of copper. Copper does not spark and it is believe this top would have been used to cut fuses. A very unique and rare piece needed in every early artillery collection. 3 in. by 11 in.
